The Palace Gallery presents::
Showin’ and Blowin’ Glass Art by Justin Baker
Check out Justin Baker’s work LIVE at the Palace Gallery Thursday, August 5th, 5-9pm.
Here is a picture Libby got of the balloons being released into the night sky. They represented the prayers of Portico Church for our city. They represented the light of the Gospel going forth into our our world so all may know our Great Rescuer. And, I suppose, they represented a really fun culmination to a fantastic weekend.
There were so many people who helped make our celebration weekend a success that I wouldn’t even know where to start an attempt to list them all. Still, my sincere thanks to each and every one.
What a great weekend! But, far more significantly, what a great God!!
“If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.” (Isaiah 58:9b-10)
Don’t forget, this weekend we are celebrating the first anniversary of Portico Church gathering in The Palace. Plan to participate in these events:
Downtown Cinema will be showing Willy Wonka at dark Saturday night. Bring a chair or blanket.
Bike Ride & Pancake Breakfast at 8:30 Sunday morning. Bring your bike or just come for breakfast.
Portico Church weekly gathering Sunday night will include a celebration service followed at 6p followed by a cookout in the Palace Park.
Hope to see you often this weekend!
Join us next Tuesday as we once again come together to worship Christ in spirit and in truth. John 4:24 says “those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.” (The Message)
Come, pause from your busy week. Let’s see how God is speaking to us and offer Him the authentic worship He desires.
Tuesday, July 31, 7:00 p.m., Portico Church at the Palace
I just love this picture. It was obviously taken at Christmas time. I assume the building from which it was taken no longer exists as it was, apparently, taken from a tall building on the north side of DeSiard Street about where the city parking lot is now. The shot is looking down DeSiard Street toward the Ouachita River. Isn’t the sign on top of The Palace awesome?
It’s nearly impossible for me to believe that we’ve been meeting in the Palace for a year. But it has, in fact, been one year this week! Take a few moments right now to:
SAVE THE DATE: The Palace is turning 1, and we’re going to celebrate big!
It’s hard to believe that The Palace has already been open for a year! Portico Church has a weekend of events planned to help us celebrate God’s provision and to get our community involved. Put these events on your calendar and watch for more details about how to participate:
• Downtown Cinema / Saturday, July 28th
Showing of “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.” Movie starts at dark.
• The Palace Ride & Pancake Breakfast / Sunday, July 29th at 8:30am
A group bike ride for all ages and stages of riders, with proceeds benefiting ARCO, a local non-proift that serves children and adults with developmental disabilities. This 10-mile ride will start at The Palace Park and end with a free pancake breakfast at The Palace.
• Portico Church Sunday Gathering / Sunday, July 29th at 6pm
A special night of worship and celebration, followed by a cook-out in The Palace Park.
The Hub is a new gathering of Doers & Dreamers within the Portico Church. The Hub will seek to effectively meet several challenges of coordinating a Volunteer Staffed Church that is telling the grand story of Life coming to Dead Things.
During the one hour gathering, we will:
1. Sync a Calendar of Events & Activities
2. Discuss Triumphs & God’s Workings within our community
3. Troubleshoot needs and gaps in service delivery within our church
4. Check in with an Elder regarding the Spiritual Direction of our fellowship
5. Pray for the Kingdom Work in our community
Bring your calendars and be ready for a fast-paced, energetic experience that will leave you better informed and excited about the coming days. If you have items for discussion that you would like to see addressed during The Hub, please email Chris Ramsey by June 19 to have them placed on the agenda.
